The Outdoor Carcoon is effectively ‘a bubble within a bubble’ and uses a base mat and top cover similar to the EVO model. However, this model is designed to help protect the vehicle in the sometimes hostile outdoor environment. The outdoor Carcoon uses two layers of a special, alloy-coated material with an insulating air gap between each skin. This configuration – along with a thick insulated base mat and special materials – provides unrivalled protection from dampness and the cold, just as effectively as it protects from high levels of Ultra-Violet and Infra-Red rays, which are found in some of the more extreme climates.
The outdoor environment is considerably more challenging than the garage environment. Effective outdoor protection must offer something extra, regarding insulation from both high and low temperature extremes. When the sun shines, Ultra-Violet and Infra-Red protection is needed. When the weather is wet, the enclosure must be water tight. When the temperature drops, the enclosed vehicle must be protected from the cold. One further and essential fact of good outdoor protection is that the vehicle must be protected from the dew point. This can only be achieved by providing a well-insulated enclosure that completely encapsulates the vehicle with its own internal airflow.
A single-skin car cover cannot provide anything near the level of protection required to insulate the vehicle from the constantly changing – and sometimes hostile – outdoor environment. After introducing the indoor Carcoon airflow system (single skin) just over seventeen years ago, our customers soon demanded a similar system that could be used outdoors. The development of the Outdoor Carcoon took over four years of testing and development in both hot and cold climates. Effectively, the outdoor Carcoon is a ‘bubble within a bubble’. The base of the outdoor Carcoon is made up of three laminates with insulation material sandwiched between two layers of heavy duty PVC. Essentially, this protects the vehicle from the extremely cold ground temperatures of winter and is essential in maintaining the stability of the interior temperature.
The top cover of the Carcoon uses an insulating ‘air gap’ between each skin. This also provides essential protection from both high and low temperature extremes. Ultra-Violet light can cause rapid deterioration, affecting paint, rubber seals, and interior trim; not to mention possible tyre degradation. Therefore, it follows that the material of the Outdoor Carcoon must keep the storage environment protected from the damaging Ultra-Violet light. The Outdoor Carcoon uses a special, alloy-coated polyester material that actually reflects Ultra-Violet rays, essentially protecting both the material itself and of course the enclosed vehicle. Remember, the Outdoor Carcoon uses TWO protective layers of this special material, delivering UV PROTECTION and temperature stability that are second to none.
Shield throughout the seasons
When you see ice on the outside of your Carcoon, remember the inner is clean and dry, as this Outdoor Carcoon is effectively a Bubble within a Bubble. This means the inner bubble will remain protected even with an ice covered outer, leaving the vehicle within well away from the frost and ice. Of course this outer skin is subject to the rigours of winter ice, frost, wind and rain, not to mention the damaging effects of Ultra Violet throughout the summer months.
I guess we can all agree, seeing frost on the outer cover of your Carcoon is far better than seeing your special car covered in frost and moisture. Even during the summer months its far better to let this outer cover suffer the ravages of Ultra Violet rather than leave the vehicle exposed. Of course eventually the outer skin will be degraded by all these extremes, however the Carcoon is designed to enable the outer skin to be replaced when it eventually becomes necessary.
Carcoon also offer a customer backup service supplying spares and service items such as filters and ventilators and also offer a repair and refurb in the event of any accidental damage or normal wear and tear.
As environments around the world vary immensely we do not give a definitive life for the outdoor Carcoon, however what we do say is a well maintained Carcoon is expected to last between three to five years before needing to be refurbished and all electrical parts carry a Three Year Guarantee.
